Robotic Heart Surgery

Robotic heart surgeries are the highest-level surgeries performed with today’s technology, essentially the “Everest” of cardiac surgery. It is the latest advancement in heart surgery. The number of surgeons performing these surgeries actively in our country is less than the number of fingers on one hand. The critical point in these surgeries is that the chest cavity is not opened from the front or side, meaning there is no incision. The surgeries are performed through tiny (8-10 mm) holes made in the chest.
Compared to other surgeries, robotic surgery is an extremely safe approach, and the surgical risk does not increase.
Benefits of Robotic Heart Surgery
- No chest incision from the front or side
- Reduced risk of infection
- Shorter hospital stays and faster recovery times
- Quicker return to daily activities and work
- Excellent cosmetic outcomes
- Less pain during recovery
- Minimal blood loss, with a very low need for transfusions

In 2020, Dr. Burak Onan successfully performed my mitral valve repair surgery. I was originally told by many doctors that my valve needed to be replaced and that it couldn’t be repaired. However, Dr. Onan made it possible.

Ensuring the Best Heart Treatment for You

Why is a Second Opinion Important?
Choosing the right treatment option for heart disease is one of the most critical decisions for your health. Therefore, seeking a second opinion before heart surgery can help guide your treatment process in a safer and more informed manner. A second opinion allows another surgeon or doctor to review your current treatment plan and provide the best treatment options for you.
What Does a Second Opinion Offer You?
Due to the variety of treatment options available, obtaining multiple expert opinions is especially important. Whether it’s open surgery, minimally invasive, endoscopic, or robotic methods for heart valve surgery, consulting with other doctors will help you determine the best option for your treatment and optimize your care.
The Power of a Multidisciplinary Approach
Instead of relying on a single expert opinion, a multidisciplinary approach to heart disease treatment typically yields safer outcomes. A team consisting of a cardiovascular surgeon, cardiologist, and anesthesiologist evaluates and decides on the most appropriate treatment. Additionally, contributions from other specialties such as infectious diseases and nephrology ensure that every aspect of your treatment is thoroughly considered.
At our center, our expert team carefully evaluates each patient and determines the most accurate treatment plan based on international medical guidelines.

Yes. To accurately assess your condition, a physical examination is essential. Listening to your medical history and performing a thorough clinical evaluation allows us to better understand your situation. If necessary, we may refer you to a cardiologist or request additional tests.
Bringing any previous test results or medical reports with you can help us make the evaluation process more efficient. These documents are valuable for a comprehensive assessment during the visit.
One of the most common questions we receive is about the difference between cardiology and cardiovascular surgery. Patients with heart-related concerns typically consult a cardiologist first. Cardiologists evaluate the patient’s overall condition, symptoms, and quality of life.
If non-surgical treatments are not sufficient and surgical intervention is determined to be the best course of action, the patient is then referred to a cardiovascular surgeon. From that point on, the surgical process is managed by the surgeon.
As a cardiovascular surgeon, Prof. Burak Onan, MD may also refer patients to other specialties when a multidisciplinary evaluation is needed.
